FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AWARENESS AND IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION TALK FOR THE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY
The SULAM project achieved meaningful impacts for students, the community, and other stakeholders. For students, it provided a platform to enhance critical thinking, communication, leadership, and teamwork skills. They applied academic knowledge to real-world challenges, developing empathy and adaptability by simplifying complex financial concepts and tailoring activities to meet the community’s needs. These experiences fostered personal and professional growth, equipping students with invaluable skills for the future.
For the Orang Asli community in Kampung Sayong Pinang, the project improved financial literacy and highlighted the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty. Participants gained practical strategies for managing finances, distinguishing between needs and wants, and prioritizing education for long-term growth. The interactive sessions fostered greater community engagement and strengthened bonds among participants.
The initiative also had broader impacts, including fostering collaboration with local leaders and raising awareness of the challenges faced by indigenous communities. This created opportunities for future partnerships and provided a scalable model to address similar issues in other underserved areas. Additionally, the project strengthened the university’s social responsibility efforts and enhanced its reputation for impactful community engagement.
