SILENT SCIENCE: UNDERSTANDING HEARING AND DEAF AWARENESS

UNIVERSITI ISLAM ANTARABANGSA MALAYSIA Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Indera Mahkota 2

Form 3 students were attentive and actively participated, learning basic sign language, enhancing their understanding of science experiments, and appreciating the importance of communication beyond verbal language. Section 879 IIUM students developed empathy, communication skills, and awareness of inclusive education practices, while also improving their ability to learn basic sign language from a certified translator. Hearing screening was conducted by our partner, Eartistic HQ, with no hearing loss detected; however, awareness on ear care and hearing health for early detection was shared. The principal of the school was impressed with the program and proud of the students’ active participation. The project aligns with the Ministry of Education’s 2027 plan to introduce Malaysian Sign Language in schools and supports national STEM education goals by fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and inclusive practices in real-world learning contexts.
